Inexpensive barn wedding venue

FAQ’s

on the best wedding venue in Shropshire!

At The Barns at Delbury Hall we’re always delighted to answer any questions you may have, but you may find the answers here:

What happens on the first viewing?

On the first viewing we give you a tour of the Coach House Barn, Stables accommodation and St Peters Church (if you are thinking of having a church ceremony) to give you a feel for our unique and family run wedding venue. We think you’ll fall in love with the venue but there’s no obligation at all at this point. And it is a great chance for you to ask any questions about having your wedding here.

Once you’ve decided to go ahead we can discuss availability and will then take a deposit to secure your date in the diary.

Who do I contact to discuss the ceremony at St Peter’s Church or at The Barns at Delbury Hall

If you are planning to have a church ceremony at St Peter’s Church in Diddlebury you will need to email Rev’d John Beesley. His email is: revjbeesley@gmail.com

If you are planning to have a civil ceremony at The Barns at Delbury Hall you need to email the Shrewsbury Registry Office. Their email is: registrars@shropshire.gov.uk and their phone number is: 0345 6789016.

When do I need to finish the celebrations by?

The brilliant thing about hiring The Barns at Delbury Hall exclusively is that it’s all very relaxed. However, we do ask that your DJ or band finishes by 12:00am and for those not staying at the accommodation within the grounds to leave the wedding venue soon after. The bar closes at 11.45pm.

What facilities do you have for children?

The kitchen, snug and gardens at Garden Cottage are perfect locations for children to play in. We can provide cots and high chairs.

In the Stables accommodation, there is a family room which has a double bed, two bunk beds, fridge and kettle, ideal for families to stay in. There is also an extra camp bed in room 10 and a small kitchen adjoining that room, making it suitable for small families of three people. Most of the bedrooms have plenty of space for a travel cot if needed.

We also understand that you may want your celebrations to happen without children in attendance. We are able to suggest local, reliable babysitters who can come and look after your children so that you can have some child-free time to yourselves.

Can we stay in the wedding accommodation the night before?

We offer a 50% venue hire price for those people wanting to host a two day wedding at The Barns at Delbury Hall. When we get in touch 6 months prior to your wedding day we will be able to let you know if there is availability for you to stay in the wedding accommodation the night before your wedding.

When do we need to pack up by?

The caterers and bar staff will do their own clearing up. Your decorations, flowers and alcohol left over from your reception drinks (if you have decided to bring your own alcohol) will be stored away ready for you to collect. We ask that you collect all of these items before 10am the day after your wedding.

What types of confetti can we use?

Everybody loves a bit of confetti; no wedding would be complete without it! But, we ask that you use it only outside and stick with real petals.

Do you charge corkage if we bring our own drinks?

No, we don’t charge corkage! So feel free to bring your own champagne or prosecco, wine and any other drinks for the post ceremony reception and for the meal. We will run the bar for you when you have finished your meal. The bar at Delbury Hall is cashless, or you can set up a tab and provide free drinks to your guests.

What do you supply for wedding ceremonies and events?

Delbury Hall is a self-catering venue, so food and drinks are not included. Extras like music and flowers are also not included but we are always delighted to recommend the best local suppliers to ensure your day is extra special.

The cost for hiring The Barns at Delbury Hall includes:

  • Indoor and outdoor tables and chairs

  • vintage class holders, lanterns and a lit open fire

  • fairy lights, evergreen trees in planters

Plus we pride ourselves with providing you with a hands on service throughout the lead up to your wedding.

If you use our recommend caterers The Shed what do they provide within their price?

Do you charge extra for crockery, cutlery and glasswear?

As stated above our recommended supplier include the crockery, cutlery and glasswear in their food prices. If you’d prefer to use an external caterer they can either bring their own crockery, cutlery and glassware. Or you can hire this for the day. We recommend you use Tipples.

What time can we arrive at the venue to setup?

If there is not an event happening the day before your wedding then we are happy for you and your suppliers to arrive at 10am the day before your wedding to setup. If there is an event happening the day before the Coach House venue is accessible from 8:30am for your suppliers to come and setup.

What time are we able to access the bridal dressing room?

The bridal dressing room will be available from 8am on the day of your wedding.

On the day of the wedding will the Events Manager set up the table decorations and the ceremony decorations?

Yes, our Events Manager will happily set up your decorations on the day of your wedding. She will be available from 8:30am to help with the setup and make sure that the suppliers don’t have any problems.

If we want to use our own external caterers how does this work?

We understand that our recommended caterers cannot cater for all food options and so we do allow external caterers at The Barns at Delbury Hall. Our reputation is on the line and so in order to make sure that the service is kept up to our standards we require you to use our waiting staff who know the venue and kitchen. The cost per waiter and waitress will be passed on to you or the caterer at our cost price of £15 per hour. We will work with you and your caterer to make sure that the right number of waiting staff are available on the day. This will obviously depend entirely on what food you are having and how many people you are having to your reception drinks and wedding breakfast.

In addition, we require the external caterer to pay a deposit of £250. This will be paid back to the caterer after the wedding so long as the kitchen is left in a the same state as before the wedding and all of the rubbish is taken off site. In addition, for the kitchen hire we charge £5 per adult guest attending the wedding breakfast. This can either be paid by the caterer or yourselves.

If we want to have a free no-corkage evening bar how does this work?

We do allow you to have a no-corkage free evening bar so you can provide all of your guests drinks in the day and in the evening. You will have to pay £180 for two bar staff to host the bar from 6pm - midnight (£15 per hour for each bar staff member). And, there is a bar hire charge per evening guest of £2.

Please note that we cannot have a part paid and part free bar and we cannot re-sell your drinks. If you opt to have a cashless evening bar it will be the responsibility of the couple getting married to supply all of the evening drinks. We will also only be able to serve pre-made cocktails, bottled beers and bottles of wine.

The couples will also have to hire in the glassware for the evening bar. We recommend that you do this through tipples who are local and who we use regularly. Here is a link to their website.

What’s your recommended list of suppliers?

We are here to help with our tried and trusted professionals. We have forged strong relationships with the best local suppliers over the course of many years who we can recommend with complete confidence. In the run up to the big day we will work with you to guide you through the process. On the day, one of our in-house events team will always be on hand to ensure there aren’t any problems.

The choice is yours! We are very popular for wedding parties but we can also host other events. Whatever the occasion, we would love to work with you to create the celebration you have always dreamed of.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
